The goal in listening is to help the one speaking feel heard and assured. A good listener knows that when someone is done talking that is when they may reply back appropriately and then express there views.  Listening can be the key to success because that is when you learn the wants and needs of the speaker. There are some simple advantages of listening:

1.  Listening displays a genuine interest in ones viewpoint. This creates a better relationship between the one listening and the one speaking.

2. Listening gives a better understanding of your surrounding such as relevant news, occasions etc.

3. Listening helps one stay focuses in a conversation and aids in remembering key aspects of the conversation.

4. Listening may defuse conflict through understanding the issue the speaker may have and allow one to respond appropriately.

5. Listening can be emotionally helpful, by taking time to listen you affirm the other person that they are important.
